A builder, still learning.

I’ve spent most of my life building things.

Wood was the material I knew best. I made furniture, designed interiors, ran factories and worked on places where people shop, eat, work and live.

There is an honesty to that kind of work. You can explain a mistake beautifully. The door still won’t close.

I came to appreciate that.

Building taught me to look a little further than the finished surface. Sometimes the problem was in the drawing. Sometimes it was in an assumption nobody had thought to check. By the time it became visible, it had usually been there for a while.

I began noticing that outside the workshop, too. In businesses, in the way people deal with one another, and occasionally in things I was very sure I understood.

Writing gave me somewhere to examine them.

I don’t write because I’ve worked life out. I write because an idea can feel convincing in my head and look rather different once I’ve put it into words. There’s something useful about that small embarrassment. It leaves room to learn.

These days, I’m building with more than wood.

Capital W brings together my work in business environments, design, technology and information security. PathMate and MetaLearn Universe are projects I’m developing around how we find direction, learn and become capable of more.

Saint Order takes that curiosity somewhere more tangible again. It’s a clothing brand I’m building around identity and self expression. Beneath the graphics and the name is a simple intention: I want the person wearing it to feel that they matter.

I’ve also written three books, from stories for children to Empower, Thrive, Succeed: A Teen’s Guide to Personal Growth. Here on the website, I write about business, technology and being human. Often, I’m following a question rather than making a point.

I still love design. Music still gets my attention. There are days when the most interesting thing I learn has nothing to do with work.

Perhaps that’s why I no longer worry quite so much about finding a title that explains everything.

I make things. I write. I change my mind. I try again.
