I Gave Her My Heart But She Wanted My Soul

I gave her my heart. Thought that would be enough. I showed up with love, honesty, and everything I knew how to give. What I didn’t realise was that she didn’t want my heart, she wanted my soul.

She wanted to own the parts of me that made me who I am. The light in my eyes, the peace in my silence, the freedom in my spirit. Love turned into a slow surrender, a trade I never agreed to. You don’t notice it at first, how someone starts to reshape you. How you go from being yourself to being what they need.

There’s a kind of love that heals you and a kind that drains you. The first one feeds your soul. The second feeds on it.

When I finally walked away, I wasn’t angry anymore. Just empty. That’s the price of giving your heart to someone who never planned to meet you halfway.

Love should never cost you your soul.

A man holds a red heart towards a woman in darkness. White text reads "I gave her my heart but she wanted my soul," conveying a somber mood.
